Lehner’s-Beeren Farm Day: Corn Maze Exploration & Fresh Fruit Picking

Jessy did such a good job organising the family day for this weekend. She found a corn maze only 20 minutes away on bus 10 and the farm also had fruit picking and a great area for the kids to play.

The farm is called Lehner and is located at Aignerstrabe 134. https://lehners-beeren.at/juhuuuu-das-lehner-maislabyrinth-ist-geoeffnet/.

When we got there we headed straight to the corn maze and bought our tickets for 6 euro entry.. The kids love anything to do with escape rooms and scavenger hunts and mazes and we had never been to a corn maze.

At the very onset Daniel caught me completely by surprise and ran off by himself in the opposite direction of where we were going on one of the paths and I immediately freaked out just picturing him getting lost, but he was so caught up in the excitement of the maze I don’t even think it crossed his mind and within a few minutes he had found his way back to us.

This made me realise the maze was not going to be too difficult and was more tailored to families and children (after all there was a great big flag and viewing platform that was set up as the central spot you could work your way to as a home base).

We had fun solving the clues of the maze and translating the questions. There was a game to guess which grain varieties were matched with the jar of grain ie quinoa, barley etc and each jar had a corresponding letter when put in the right order made a word.

There was guess the number of corn kernels in a jar and other riddles along the way. We lost ourselves in the twists and turns and dead ends of the maze and it was a lot of fun.

To get out we decided to start at the furthermost point and then bolt through all the paths and see how long it took us to get out, it took longer than we expected to run the 10 acre maze but we found the exit without cheating.

The other activity on the farm was the fruit picking and there were rows and rows and rows of delicious raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. The raspberries were easy to pick and were in season with over a couple hundred vines per row and I would estimate 20 rows with every row holding thousands of delicious raspberries and then a whole other section for the strawberries and blueberries. I kept looking at the rows and rows and rows and although Ben and Jessy were quite content to stay in one little area and pick the berries, I wanted to move along and take one from every section lol and each section just got better and better.

It was interesting to see how the other people picking fruit were working their way through the vines. Some were other super speeders like me that were walking through the rows at a steady speed and others that just stayed in one spot and selected their fruit in that one area. With so much too choose from I wanted to take a piece of fruit from every vine but that would have taken us all day.

We could have kept picking the raspberries but decided we had a full container so headed to the strawberries. These were harder to select as you had to search to find the juicy red ripe strawberries, they were all set up so organised and under a netting but most were un ripe so we only managed to get half a container but they were so surprisingly delicious we should have picked more. Then we went and got some blueberries to add to the berry container.

We pretty much demolished all the berries once we found a table and rounded up Daniel. The raspberries were sweet and so yummy, really fresh and full of flavour, the strawberries were sweeter, juicier, and more intense flavor than any store-bought ones I have bought and Ben loved the blueberries which he said were sweet and had a very subtle tartness.

There was a charming little store which sold all the produce of the farm and more including pastries and jams and sauces and it I could have easily stocked up but we are moving in 4 days so decided to leave it.
