Maria Plains church at Bergheim
The 21 bus that we have been catching right out the front of our place goes to Bergheim and we have caught the bus so many times but never gone all the way to the end, so we decided to venture out there on our bikes and see what it was like.
It was only a 20 minute ride past some gorgeous little canals and parks and there right in town near the biggest bakery I have seen in Salzburg was a church but this was not the Maria Plains church, the church was another 20 minute ride all up hill but worth the ride.
The views from the top were so good and the church and little shops were so sweet.
I have visited a lot of church’s now but this one in particular made me feel very emotional. They had the sweetest smallest little worship booth that you could light a candle for the dead and Ben took me by surprise when he started reaching into his wallet for 2 euro to light a candle for both Joe and his Oma. As soon as he lit the candles I was flooded with tears and emotions just thinking it was such a nice way to remember a loved one and I’m sure there was a lot of energy in that room from other people over the hundreds of years doing the same. It was actually quite cleansing as we were talking about Joe and saying how he would have loved to have visited Austria and travelled and how Bens Oma Charlotte would have been so proud of him for visiting her home Country.
Once I dried my eyes and stopped being overcome with emotion which actually took a good while we headed into the actual church and also explored the area.
It was a really memorable day for me and one that will stay with me now.
We didn’t go to Tomacelli’s after Maria Plains but another day Ben and I headed there for some cake and it was fabulous as always.
