Nuremberg Germany took me by surprise and I want to go back
Before we left Australia we booked accommodation in Germany so we could all go to the Getzen Rodeo in October. This is a world-class hard enduro motorcycle race held in Grießbach, a district of Drebach in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region of Saxony, Germany. It is a 6 hour car ride from Salzburg and it started on Friday 24th October with the prolog race and then the main event was on the Saturday 25th October.
We hired a car from dryyve cars (a Jeep Avenger) and booked to pick it up Thursday 23rd October after work. Ben finished work early at 2pm and made his way to collect it while I packed and got the kids ready. It was like a scavenger hunt to get the car. The instructions we received was to go to the airport to the bus stop area and then call a number they provided then a taxi would pick you up and take you to the hire company. Ben called and called and only got an answering machine and eventually I found a number of the company and called to advise he was waiting to be collected. Once at the hire company they explained they did not have our chosen car anymore and instead gave us another car. Ben was wanting to cancel and look for another car but really it was a perfectly fine alternative so I wasn’t too phased.
This was our weels for our trip
This was the car we booked but they said they did not have….
We decided that 6 hours in one drive was far too long so we found a halfway point on the map in a place called “Nuremberg'“ that we booked a stay at.
What a divine town, I instantly was drawn to the sweetness and authenticness of the town.
We arrived at 6:30pm and we had booked through Booking.com. We needed to register online to receive the apartment details and codes which I did and when we arrived at the property it was just a door with a keypad. Everything we tried to put in did not work and we really were not sure how to get access. We walked down to a restaurant a few doors down and there was a machine to put in your code and check in. We couldn’t get this to work either so luckily there was an interco where we spoke to a lady who said we needed to go into the restaurant to collect our key. Another scavenger hunt. So key in hand we went back up to the apartment door entered the door code and were able to get access.
I was thinking after all of this our apartment was going to be diabolical but it was really cute. The colour scheme was blues and greys with pictures of the town and castles and the kids had their own rooms with King size beds and t’vs and there was a full kitchen, 2 balconies, and a master bedroom with its own access to the balcony with views of the river and bridge. I would really have loved to stay a full weekend here and to explore and enjoy the town but it was only a quick overnight stop.
Nuremberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany and it has its own Old Town (Altstadt) but much less touristy like Salzburg and more of a genuine feel with cozy beer gardens, traditional restaurants, the sweetest bakeries and markets still with features landmarks like Nuremberg Castle, the Church of Our Lady, and the Main Market Square. We only had a very brief visit here staying the night in our apartment and then a quick outing for breakfast at one of the cafes a visit to the markets in the main square then we headed off.
