Redbull Hangar Salzburg

The 6th January turned out to be a special day in Salzburg as it is a national public holiday known as Epiphany (Heilige Drei Kong) and marks the offical close of the Christmas season. All shops close and families get together to reflect on how marvellous Christmas was and spend time together before work and school returns.

We took this as a great opportunity to visit the Redbull Hangar and also it was the only thing open that we could find. We rugged up to prepare for the minus 10 degree weather outside with the snowy conditions and made our way on the number 2 bus.

I loved the look and feel of the hangar itself, the inside gave spaceship vibes and outside access was limited and also felt like Area 51 with a really futuristic feel. I got completely side tracked and obsorbed in the shape and feel of the hangar itself more than the cars, planes and bikes.

They even had a conference room far up in the roof which looks like a command deck and is suspended overlooking the entire hangar. Unfortunately this area was off limits otherwise I would have loved to go in there.

On display are formula 1 cars, racing bikes, helicopters and planes all shiny and pristine but roped off so you can’t actually get up close.

Getting home is always interesting after an outing. It is a case of trying to find the bus stop location before the bus comes and we didn’t succeed on this day and the bus went sailing past as we were speed walking to try and get to the bus stop. Sometimes the departing bus stop is blocks down the street from where it originally let you off so its always hit and miss but we didn’t have to wait very long until another bus came and we were on our way home. The buses are so warm and heated with fan heaters which is so nice.
