Schloss Aniff Castle

Mum and I have visited lots of castles but this one really ipitimises a fairy tale castle. Firstly it was a mission to actually see but once we did it was worth the visit.

We took the 21 bus to Mirabell Platz and then jumped on the 25 bus to head to the castle. It was only one stop after the zoo so really easy to find directionally, however once we were there and walking to find it there was a fence and hedging the whole way around it in every direction for Km’s and Km’s. We could only see the castle top over the top of the wall.

We were determined to get a better view so walked back to a hotel I saw was right on the edge and ignored a sign that said ‘private property’ (Privatgrundstück – Betreten verboten) I was all prepared to say we don’t know German.

Wandering along the track we could see through the brambles only a very small glimpse of the castle.

We kept walking determined to find the start or an opening and were pleasantly rewarded with a groundsman doing some mowing and coming out of the gate and the very time we were there…so snap…we were able to get a photo, but unfortunately not enter the grounds.

We then headed back up the path with the intention to have cake and tea at the hotel we kindly used the path, however it was closed. We noticed through the back gate and fence you had a great view of the Castle so the lovely owner who was there let us go and take some photos. Happy days.
