Bens trial with Crocodile Sports as a canyoning guide (Wed 31st July)

Ben has been looking at jobs in between exploring and has been telling me about excavator jobs (Baggerfahrer) as well as construction jobs he has applied for and my alarm bells have just been building up louder and louder. I am trying to encourage him to pursue what he wants to do and I can understand that it is the easiest thing to go after - the same career as back home - but instead of ignoring my instincts I decided to listen to them and realise things will only change if we change so I decided to look for a career for Ben that I thought he would really like, something different and something right up his alley. I think he will be absolutely perfect as an adventure tourist guide in particular with canyoning, archery and rafting activities.

I found a company last week called “Crocodile Sports in Salzburg (only 20 minutes from where we are) https://www.crocodile-sports.com/ and gave them a call and had a chat to the lovely owner about Ben and if we could send his resume etc. They were open to it and so we sent it through. I have the analogy that you need to be a squeaky wheel when it comes to jobs and follow up follow up and so we did just that. However we were met with an explanation management was away for a week and would get back to us.

It has now been a week and I really had to resist the urge to just pick up the phone and call to follow up as Ben needed to call. He did that today and within a few hours they called him back and offered for him to come in for a meeting tomorrow which also includes payment as he will be helping on the day.

This is how they do this here. Ben was sent a text message at 5pm The sms read:-

Dear Ben, Julian will pick you up tomorrow at 7:50am at KREISVERKEHR Elsbethen (Station Bus Nr 7) Greetings Dani. Crocodile Sports Gmbh. Please bring swimwear!

Ben sent them back a confirmation as well as pin shot from google maps to check that was the spot and he was replied with one word:exactly-:

YESSSSS.

What a character he already seems like but also so nice.

This is the meeting point tomorrow morning pinned on google maps.

How exciting hey! And nuts. So Ben is going to have to find his way to this part of Salzburg we have never been to, but he has pinned the location on Google Maps and it shows the bus route where to walk to etc and Ben isn’t phased about finding the location at all and is very excited. They are going to pick him up and I assume drive out to the canyoning area.

We are not sure on the salary yet but if Ben loves this work then we will make any salary work.

I am excited to see how tomorrow goes for him. I wonder if the water is freezing or not.
