Working from home in Salzburg and having time to shop

When I was contemplating working from home in Austria (in my current holiday property management role) I looked at the time difference and assessed that meant I would be working from 4am Austria time for 8 hours taking me to 12pm, however it is better than I originally thought and I am working from 5am to 1pm Austria time and that is 1pm-9pm Australian time.

It has only been 2 days back to work but it’s working amazingly. The kids and Ben are in bed asleep until 10am and by the time they rise and have breakfast I am over halfway through my day. It is so peaceful working at 5am and the day seems to fly along.

I am set up working in the kitchen and there is the sweetest booth seat in the corner of the kitchen that I have made myself a cosy nook. The kitchen also closes off from the rest of the apartment so I don’t need to be quiet and there is a great coffee machine here that I use to make my milky, honey oat drinks.

I have tried 3 different types of oat milks and found my favourite which is the “Alpro Barister Hafer”. I only use the machine to boil my water but it’s so much fun to use and so quick and easier than boiling a kettle.

I have always listened to the radio while I worked as I love listening to the news and the latest gossip discussed between the presenters and that is one thing I am missing as I can only find radio stations that have German presenters but the music they play is all my favourite pop music it is just the talking that I can’t understand. I have tried many many stations but my favourite is “Antenna Radio” https://www.radio.net/s/antennekaernten which plays pop and rock and all the latest hits.

I’m telling myself that if I listen to this in the background that subliminally I will pick up on words and sentences and learn German or my brain will get used to German sounds and pronunciation. It can’t hurt.

I was concerned that it may be challenging setting everything up to work here but all the systems logged back in seamlessly and the phone lines are crisp and clear.. I am so appreciative of being able to keep my job and work overseas and after I finish my work day I still have 4 hours to wander, take in the sites, shop and hang out with the kids.

Jessy and I went clothes shopping on the Monday and hit up all our favourites like Mango, H&M, Benneton, Zara and Esprit. They are located in Aldstadt (just a 10 minute walk across the river for us). We are loving the fashion, however it’s hard to pick what to wear as the weather changes so quickly and most days it is raining. I am loving all the linen sets and they look so comfortable, flowy and relaxing and I am on a mission to find this.

I also love this……

I’m not sure if I am going to be able to pull off this look or they are going to look like pyjamas on me but they are the perfect summer style over here.

Everyone and I mean everyone wears joggers though with everything, sundresses joggers, jeans, shorts, skirts, linen pants sets all with sneakers which I can’t seem to get used to! Where are the sandals or slides or even heels but I must admit it still looks good. Blazers are super popular too (oversized blazers). I tried on blazers with Jessy and I’m warming to this look too but not quite ready for it yet.

Jessy bought the cutest fitted dress from H&M

I found a pair of linen pants I liked as well

Then we both got the same cream singlet from Mango and Jessy also found a white skirt she loved so we got that too.

As you can see we’re both very drawn to creamy tones right now and thought they would look good with a denim jacket or a nice striped shirt. Now I just need to find a vest to go with my pants and I will be set.

The shops are such a pleasure to shop in. Everything is laid out and displayed so beautifully and the stores are huge and many of them look small from the street but they are in fact on several floors. Jess and I felt really comfortable to just browse and look at everything and try on lots of items.

Jess has her eyes on these sneakers but also likes these…,,

She can’t decide quite yet so will keep looking around.

There is literally hundreds of people anytime we head over to Aldstadt and it doesn’t matter what day it is….. it is full tourist season right now, although Saturdays are generally the most busy. I’m sure I’m going to get over so many people everywhere all the time but for now its bearable.
