Exquisite Hallstatt
I absolutely love love lurvvvvv Hallstatt. What a gorgeous town. I felt like from the moment I walked off the Ferry I was walking into a painting. So much colour and vibrancy with all the houses lining the foreshore of the lake all painted different colours and the flowers on their balconies making it so inviting.
I had an ah hah moment when Daniel found a park and asked me to swing on the swings with him and I guess it made me feel giddy as I was saying in my head “I’m swinging in Hallstatt”. It has been a place I have had on my bucket list to visit for many years and it was a really lovely moment to be present while swinging with him.
It is so amazing to think these houses are centuries-old (with some being over 300 years old) , and only 700 people live here.
I could spend days here exploring - 1 day is not enough time at all.
To get to Hallstatt from Salzburg you need to take a bus, then a train and then a ferry. It is so perfectly timed that as soon as you hop off one form of transport the other is only minutes away or waiting at the platform.
The country side and the view along the way makes the 2.5 hour trip go very quickly and there is lots to see along the way.
There was an array of delectable pastries and a number of cafes to try and we found the yummiest pastry that was hot and full of custard and it was crispy and buttery and delicious and the berries on top balanced the sweetness nicely.
There is a vending machine that sells “Hallstatt Air” for 10 Euro. Hmmm I wonder if anyone actually buys that.
Daniel was determined to pat the swan, but the swan wasn’t having it and instead was eying off Daniels fingers for lunch.
There is a look out and a walk called ‘The Skywalk” which is above the waterfall but unfortunately it wasn’t open when we were there.
I was fascinated and in awe all day and thoroughly enjoyed myself wandering through the shops and taking in the majestic size of the mountains and the lake and exploring the village.
