Fun day out at Fantasiana Theme Park

We were able to entice the kids to come out for family day and we went to a theme park just 30 minutes out of Salzburg called Fantasiana. We weren’t sure if it was designed just for younger children as a lot of the images on the website and videos seem to have the younger kids but it is a great park which caters for mid teens and adults as well as young kiddies.

Getting to the theme park was a bit of a magical mystery tour as we caught the 130 bus from the train station and got off at Straßwalchen Marktplatz which was the main town center closest to the park. From there we thought it was a 15 minute walk but little did we know it was all up hill and on a footpath parallel to the freeway. The kids were complaining all the way with Daniel trying to play soccer with a rock up the hill and Mum making me laugh saying it felt like we were the Grisswalds in a National Lampoon movie but we eventually found the sign showing the entrance and everyone was thrilled.

What a great park and we all had so much fun on all the rides running around and trying to get back on them again straight away. There really wasn’t many queues (only for the big roller coaster) which we went on several times and was a stand out ride, twisting upside down and zooming along so fast. Another favourite of mine was the pendular swing and the log ride where all 4 of us got absolutely drenched. The kids wanted to all go together and it surely must have been because we had so much weight in the canoe that when we came barrelling down the slide into the water the water sprayed up all over the canoe and drenched us. I looked around at others when they came off but they were mostly dry. It was ok though as it was such a sunny lovely day that we didn’t mind being wet and we dried off in a couple of hours too.

We explored the whole park and went on everything from the ferris wheel to what we called ‘The Slug’ to roller coasters, train rides, the haunted house and had such a great time.

We were there until closing and asked the theme park attendant to call a cab to get a ride back into town but the attendant didn’t ask for a big enough cab as the one that arrived only had room for 4 seats and there were 5 of us. But what a legend the cab driver was and he let us all squish in together to get down the hill into town.

Back in town we only had to wait for a short while for the bus to return back to Salzburg.
