Out and about with the kids
The kids were vey receptive today and happy to go exploring. The markets were on along the river which we browsed through on our way to the old town. On Sonntag though it is a day of rest and many of the specialty shops were closed, the restaurants, bars and cafes were still open but everything else was closed which is a concept that is so strange to us. How does everyone do their shopping if all the main grocery shopping stores like Aldi and Spar are all closed on Sunday, does that mean everyone shops on Saturdays or after work? They don’t have home delivery so it is going to be challenging. Who knows….. but we will keep that in mind for future grocery outings.
We had fun checking out the golden ball again and the grandeur of the square. It was hustle and bustle again with lots of tourists and we tried pretzels, took some great photos, listened to the local music and enjoyed all the sculptures and buildings.
Lunch was traditional fare at a restaurant called “Camino Es Bar Salzburg” in Jundengasse 10, 5020 Salzburg in old town where we tried the sausage platter with saurerkraut and potatoes, spaghetti, chicken schnitzel and a pork roast with dumplings. The kids weren’t particularly impressed but Ben and I thoroughly enjoyed ours again.
The kids had filled their buckets with site seeing and wanted to go back so we parted ways and Ben and I went on to explore and found an impressive cathedral (Salzburg Cathedral) adorned with paintings, soaring ceilings, intricate stucco work, marble columns, and a richly decorated altar, it was so stunning. We were happy to stay there and just sit but the kids called us saying they couldn’t get into the apartment. What the!! The front door buzzer wasn’t working for some reason so off we went to walk back to help them get in.
To get into our apartment there is a buzzer for the front door and then a code on the apartment door, it was the front door that the kids couldn’t open and sure enough when we got there it wasn’t working, luckily I had a back up key and of course brought it with me so we used that to get in. Ben had a look once inside and the switch to activate the front door buzzer was turned off for some reason, so we turned it back on and it worked perfectly again.
Once back at the apartment we rested for an hour and then headed out again this time into the forest for a walk to look at the views over the city and take in the freshness and calmness of the forest, we even saw a squirrel.
