Settling into Life In Salzburg
You know that feeling at the end of a big day where your body is just begging to lie down and your eye lids are so heavy you just want to close them and go to sleep, that is how I woke up today. It truly feels like my world is upside down. I have been telling myself to just eat at the Austrian time and sleep the Austrian time but to put that into perspective we are eating dinner when we should be sleeping at 3am and then trying not to go to sleep directly after with full bellies, which takes us to 6am Aussie time and then its almost like you move past the tired and you are awake in almost a dream mode where you don’t know if you are awake or asleep but then the power of exhaustion takes over and you crash out so deep you don’t even think you move in your sleep.
I thought by now I would start to settle into the rhythm but it feels like I am walking around almost like I have brain fog and I have no concept of time or what I should be doing. I’m still having a great time but I think today needs to be a day of rest.
As I say this Ben and I have already walked to the registry office to get our forms changed so now Austria is our primary residence. The bank is now happy and we walked over to drop off the forms so they can finalise our bank account and then we went to the AMS - a job seeker agency to find out the details of how to join.
That was a funny experience. We walked through the doors and went to get a ticket but the machine said you needed to insert your e-card. There are so many twists and turns and new requirements we need to take setting our new life up here it is like a scavenger hunt every day. An e-card is basically a health insurance card and it contains details of your insurance provider and name, date of birth etc. You need to have this to work.
We have been advised to go to OGK Customer Service Office - Engelbert‑Weiß‑Weg 10, 5020 Salzburg to organise the e-card. As I don’t have my Visa I can’t get an e-card so will have to look at how I can be covered over here before I arrange my Visa. I will probably need to organise travel insurance instead. I'm sure we will be trotting our little selves off to this establishment very soon, we also need to go grocery shopping and have decided to try Hofer.
