Utersberg Cable Car

We told mum we have a great experience for you to go up a cable car to the top of Utersberg which is about 1900m high at its highest point right on the border between Austria and Germany.

Mum was in great spirits entering the cable car and riding up (even though it was jammed packed full of people and we couldn’t fit another person in). Mum wanted to go at the back so we were separated on the way up but I found her as we exited and came out to the top. The views were magnificent as the last time Ben and I came here it was a white out from the snow but today absolutely gorgeous blue skies and could see all the Alps and villages off in the distance.

We had only walked up the pathway to go to the top when Mum was hesitant to go any further. It was a little daunting for her as there was no fencing on the side just a sheer drop off the cliff and the other side had snow and without hiking boots made the walk quite precarious.

Ben went off for a quick walk up to the cross and Mum and I went into the warm cafe for tea (as it was freezing up there) must have been in the minus’s.

We went to the top of the terrace to take some photos and by the time we had read the history and wandered around Ben was back and we were back in the cable car and headed down.

I don’t think it was very enjoyable for mum while we were up there but she surprised me once her feet were firmly planted back on the ground and said it was one of her most favourite experiences so far being in Salzburg.

It was exhilarating and I’m so glad Mum enjoyed it.
