Two trips to Zell am See in the heart of the winter snow

An hour and a half train ride from Salzburg is Zell am See a lakeside town with the skii fields on the horizon in the distance and a striking lake with crystal clear waters in the foreshore. It has some grand hotels and restaurants I would like to come back and try and I have been told the lake can completely freeze over in winter. We loved it so much we went there close to 2 weeks in a row.

Ben and I went and just explored and had a look around one Sunday and it was easy to catch the train then the bus up to the top of the slopes. We also walked around in the snow trails and found our way from the lake up to the top to the start of the gondolas.

We brought the kids back the next weekend and they had a blast just walking the trails and exploring the dams and frozen waterfalls. The view from the top was spectacular and we had lots of laughs running and falling and sliding and having snowball fights. We were like those tourists who have never been to an area before and are fascinated by the scenery. We will be back very soon and this time to go tabogganining.
