Renting out our place
I knew it was going to be challenging wrapping up our life here in Cessnock and moving over to Austria but I didn’t know the challenges were going to start so soon. We have a 1 bedroom self contained studio attached to our house which we have been renting out since we have lived here and the extra income is something we have gotten used to. I don’t know if our tenants have overheard us talking or what has instigated this but our tenants have given notice to move out. This is too soon! My plan was to ask them to move out in June and then get the photos taken, pop it on realestate.com.au and rent the whole place out before we left. Perfect co-ordination. But no this is happening sooner. In fact our tenants decided to move out this weekend as they didn’t want photos of their belongings on line. So we had to make a decision of what to do and we have decided to get the photos taken of the house and studio next week and advertise ready for rent. This is 3 months too soon. My thinking is that it will take at least 4-6 weeks to find a tenant and then that takes us up to mid May and we then only have 6-8 weeks where we need to rent elsewhere. We can find an airbnb property to rent and move in there until we fly out. I think it is a good solution so we can see what it is like managing the business remotely and also for the kids to gradually move out of the environment they love and know so well.
If the property rents sooner well that is going to put my head in a real spin but that will motivate us to clear everything out and move out sooner.
We are all so used to the comfort and familiarity of home and our place and the routine of our life so this will be the start of coming out of this and into the new.
