Almkanal - floating down the canal in Summer
There is a divine bicycle path that winds past the castle and through farm lands over bridges and running beside quite a large section of the pathway is a long canal and it is so cute. There are ladders all the way along from the houses and decks going into the water and we discovered it in winter where part of the water was frozen and the water was ice cold but we imagined what it would be like in Summer.
Well the temperature was going to be 36 degrees so we decided to go to Aktion and purchase some floating and spend the day floating down the canal.
We got the cutest array of floaties including a pink flamingo, a yellow duck, a bulldog ring and a white unicorn and they were a great large size.
We headed out and found a great spot by the canal that was cleared and right ton the waters edge. In fact all the way along the canal there were people set up with picnics and music and their own floating ready to hit the canal. It was very popular but as the current was so strong everyone just got carried along and there was no build up of people.
The water was cold and a full shock to the system when we first got in (it is fed from the Alpine water) and the current was that strong you could not swim against it so you had to be quick to spot a handle hidden amongst the grass on the bank to get out and if you missed the handle off you went further down the canal, it was hilarious.
There was also a rope swing which the kids launched themselves out to the middle of the canal and jumped into the water. Daniel thoroughly enjoyed doing this and Jess had quite a few goes too as did Ben.
What a great past time to do in Summer and it was so popular. There were so many colourful inflatables doing down the canal but next time we need to bring some thongs as the concrete path walking back up was hot hot hot.
It was a great day to cool off and relax and be entertained.
