Salzburg Stadtfest 26th June 2026
There is always a festival, celebration, music act, theatre show a race or some fun activity in Salzburg every month if not every week and we stumbled across the Stadtfest just by walking along the river and seeing all the streets closed and blocked off - which is a feat in itself as it is generally the main thorough fair for cars and buses and tourists alike. Instead they had tables and chairs all set up in the middle of the road and a wonderful selection of food vans and trucks lined up beside them. They were only setting up when we were out and about but when we returned that night it was well and truly underway and it was only 7pm.
There were hundreds of people just milling about at drinks stalls or ice cream parlours or eating pretzels or a dish of other Austrian hot food and there were many more stands and tables and outdoor areas available to pick a spot to try.
We went for a nice ice cold drink as it was still 30 degrees and sunny, we found some home made lemonade that was pink and had mint in it (very different to the lemonade I know) Ben got a spritz wine and then Jessy tried a frozen strawberry desert fruit which was insanely good and made out of white chocolate and filled with custard, ice cream and fruit.
There were bands playing and other activities.
It just felt to me very messy and no rhyme or order but Ben and Jess were loving it. I hightailed out of there after 2 hours on the first night and went for a beautiful night walk through the gardens but came back the second night to watch the fire water display (which we assumed was fireworks) but was actually fire twirlers going up and down the river on the top of a boat. The finale was cool when he lit himself fully at the back of the boat and continued to juggle fire at the same time.
